Number of New Tasks is often used by the development department, because they usually have many small – but still relevant – tasks to be done here and there. Having an overview of how your day will look can help you organize your time more efficiently.
This KPI is also a good indicator for a manager to know how busy – or relaxed – the different departments are. With this knowledge, one can temporarily allocate more resources to a busier department, or pass some work to the less stressed ones.
